Help Your Neighbor: An LCR-style Game of Fast Easy Fun

If you enjoy the popular dice game LCR (Left Center Right), you’ll love Help Your Neighbor. Both games rely on dice rolls and luck to decide who keeps or loses their chips, making them fast-paced and exciting. However, Help Your Neighbor has its own unique twist by assigning numbers to players, adding an extra layer of suspense. Every roll can shift the game in an instant. All you need are a few dice, some chips, and a group of friends or family members to start playing. Get ready for a fun and unpredictable game night as you help your neighbors -- to lose!

Object of the Game

Be the first player to lose all your chips.

Components

Number of Players

2 to 6 (best with 5 or 6)

How to Play Help Your Neighbor

Before the game begins, in clockwise order around the table assign each player a number between 1 and 6.

  • In a six-player game, assign the first player the number 1, the second player the number 2, and so on up through 6.
  • In a four or five-player game, the numbers 5 and 6 will remain unused.
  • In a three-player game, assign pairs of numbers: 1 and 2 for the first player, 3 and 4 for the second player, 5 and 6 for the third player.
  • In a two-player game, assign one player the numbers 1,2,3 and the other 4,5,6.

Each player begins the game with an equal number of chips placed in front of them. Leave room in the center of the table for the pot.

Choose a player to begin. Play proceeds clockwise around the table.

On your turn, roll all three dice. If a player's assigned number is rolled, that player must pay a chip into the pot. (If multiple dice roll a player's number, that player must put an equivalent number of chips into the pot.)

For example, if you have been assigned the number 2 for the game, and one of the other players rolls three 2's on their turn, you must put three chips into the pot.

If a die shows a number that has not been assigned to any player (such as in a 4 or 5 player game), that result is ignored and the die is not rerolled.

After the dice have been rolled and chips have been moved, your turn is over. Pass the dice to the next player.

Winning Help Your Neighbor

The first player to place all of their chips into the pot wins. If a roll produces more than one winner, reroll until a single winner is determined.
If playing for stakes, the winner collects the whole pot but the other players keep their remaining chips.

Help Your Neighbor Rules Variations

Safe Turns

In this version, you don't lose any chips if you roll your own number on your turn. For example, if you are assigned the number 3, you won't lose chips if you roll any 3s during your turn.
